Nino doesn’t trust words anymore.

Maybe because Nino has been lied to over and over again; maybe because he grew up with lies, his parents and sister’s lies (”It’ll be fine, Kazu, they’re just a little angry, it’s nothing serious. It will be fine, don’t worry. Papa will come back tomorrow, you’ll see..”), or maybe because he knows how powerful words can be. It’s easy, to make someone believe what isn’t true, just with your voice, just with words. Lying is one of the simplest things in the world.

He doesn’t trust them, but sometimes he wants to. He wants to believe the things people say to him. When Sho smiles and pats him on the shoulder and tells him he’s doing well, being patient with the interviewers, Nino wants to believe in that pride. When Aiba laughs and says Nino is obviously his best friend, obviously, Nino wants to believe in that affection. When Jun punches him in the arm lightly and grins, saying “Shut up,” when he really means “Thanks”, Nino wants to believe that Jun really is grateful.

His strongest desire to believe comes when Ohno is kneeling above him, pressing him into the mattress and speaking into his collarbones. I love you, love you, love you. A mantra, a spell, a promise all rolled into one. Ohno’s hands drag down his sides, slow and sensual, and Nino presses soft kisses everywhere he can reach.

“Tell me,” he breathes, intense and almost needy. He needs to believe, needs to hear the truth in Ohno’s voice. He hates lies because he lies, his family lies, the world lies; he wants to know that Ohno, at least, isn’t lying too. “Tell me, tell me.”

So Ohno tells him, over and over. I love you, love you, love you. And Nino’s eyes fall shut, his body hot and twisting, and just for a heartbeat as he falls, he believes.

Nino never says it back.

He’s afraid it will be a lie.

I liked this very much. VERY MUCH. You know your boys.

I also meant to tell you some time ago how much I liked your descriptions of each Arashi member's purpose in the band. Who was the heart, and the mind, and so on. It was perfect.
